Youth Golf Clubs – Learn About Customizing Children’s Golf

Clubs

A few years ago, youth golf clubs sets were customized by
cutting the shaft of a regular adult sized set. Luckily
enough, we realized that cutting down an adult shaft creates
a very stiff club, which makes it difficult for kids to hit.
Now, Golf companies provide youngsters with golf sets that
are customized to their height and age, and are offered at
reasonable prices.

There are three main areas, which goes into a fitting, when
customizing a set of Golf clubs:

The Height: If your child is tall, he will generally have
more of an upright swing. In this case the Golf shop will
adjust the "lie" of your child's clubs. The lie is
determined from the angle that the clubhead extends from its
shaft, which is connected like a hinge. This hinge will be
closed slightly for taller players.

The Arm Length: The arm length is an important factor that
will determine the length of your child's shafts. Your child
should not have to crouch down unnaturally when gripping the
club, nor to choke up on the club either.

The customization process will include measuring the length
of your child's arms. Having your child's arms against
his/her sides will make the measurement, and the distance
from the tip of his or her middle finger to the ground will
determine the shaft length.

The Swing Speed: The kind of shafts your child's clubs will
have will depend on the swing speed. Of course everyone has
a different swing speed, which can depend on size, age,
strength, etc. Average golfers are typically best suited to
have steel shafts or granite shafts.

When customizing a set of youth golf clubs, be sure to check
around your local golf accessory stores and compare prices.
It is important that the staff also take correct measures so
that your child's clubs are designed exactly the way he and
she need them to be, and according to his and her body type.

Junior Golf Lessons

Not everyone can have junior golf lessons and become a child
golf prodigy like Tiger Woods. It is most important to keep
the game fun when introducing your child to junior golf
lessons and playing golf. Have you ever noticed how a junior
just taking up the game of golf? If allowed, they will take
a very natural golf swing. The young golfers are not
thinking about golf instruction or golf mechanics. Let your
child enjoy learning the game by their own trial and error
until THEY are ready to take the game more seriously. You
can keep it fun away from the golf course by keeping a
junior golf journal at home. Remember we play the game
because it is fun.

Up until the child is in High School, practice sessions
should be limited in time so the junior is not over-whelmed
and should only be taken to the practice facility if the
child wants to go and have fun. This will keep the junior
motivated to go and practice more often.

In keeping golf fun, refrain from giving a junior golf
instructions and let your junior swing as hard as they want
from time to time during their full swing practice. As for
your junior's golf grip, just make sure the right hand is
lower than the left hand for a right-handed golfer. Remember
keep the fun and non-restrictive and do not worry about a
proper grip, yet. It would be more beneficial for you junior
to play a game such as being able to count to three without
losing their balance no matter how hard they swing.

To keep your juniors motivation high and to allow your
junior golfer to learn to feel the club, start with putting
and chipping drills. Here are some easy ones to use:

Putting

Ladder drill - Using a sleeve of balls (three), Place a golf
ball at four feet, eight feet and twelve feet from the
putting cup. Begin with the four foot putt. If you make the
four foot putt, then move to the eight foot putt. If you
miss the four foot putt, then start over again with the four
foot putt. Repeat this until all three putts are made.

Pull back drill - Pick a long putt in which you need to lag.
Hit your putt. Did you make it? If then the answer is yes,
then great. If not, move the golf ball a putter length
further away from the hole. Keep this up until the golf ball
is holed.

Chipping

Over the bag - This is a simple fun way to learn how to
chip. Place a golf bag off of the green and set up to chip
three to six feet behind the bag. The closer to the bag you
place your ball, the bigger the challenge. Now making your
chipping stroke your goal is to clear the bag while getting
the golf ball close to the hole.

Chip to par - Pick several positions to chip from. Use one
golf ball and as you would on the golf course, chip the ball
as close to the hole as possible. Then proceed to putt the
ball into the hole. Add up your strokes and go to the same
spots and try to lower your overall score. These drills are
easy to turn into fun games or challenges.

Consider private junior golf instruction or a summer golf
camp taught by PGA Professionals if your junior shows the
interest. If this becomes an option, use references from
friends and co-workers to find the PGA professional that
would be right for your child. Again, the main goal is to
keep it fun and not try to make your golfer into a
mechanical machine.

The Top 10 Life Lessons Your Child Can Learn from Playing

Golf

During the last seven years, I have watched my son and his
friends grow up in the world of Junior Golf. This amazing
sport has brought out the best in these young men, and has
taught them so many valuable life lessons. I am forever
impressed, in particular to the following ten qualities that
I have observed my son develop as a bi-product of the great
game of golf.

1. Humility and Respect

Golf requires that you show courtesy to others and that you
communicate with respect. In the Junior Golf tournaments
across the country, it is well stated that good
sportsmanship must be exhibited at all times and that all
play is ended with an exchange of a hand shake.

2. Punctuality

When the tournament schedule states "Tee time is at 9:00,"
this means that you are to be on the tee box at 8:55. If you
are late to the tee box, you are automatically disqualified,
no questions asked. While this can be a tough lesson to
learn, it is one that works brilliantly and has instilled in
my son the importance of being on time for not only every
tournament but every event in life.

3. Confession

Golf is a game of honor, and recognizing that a
transgression has occurred and taking responsibility for the
transgression is a part of the game. This one act instills
integrity and fairness to all concerned.

4. Safety

Golf balls and clubs are very hard and dangerous
instruments, and one of the first and foremost rules of golf
is safety. My son has been instructed again and again to not
take practice swings in the direction of another person, not
to swing clubs when someone else is walking by, and never to
hit into a group playing in front of him. These rules of
safety have filtered into other aspects of his life,
including biking, swimming, and safety in the home.

5. Quiet

Golf requires an amazing amount of concentration, and quiet
is required at all times on the golf course. While this
takes practice for young kids, it is a life skill that
teaches constraint and respect for others.

6. Visioning

The night before and the morning of a tournament, my son
sits quietly and mentally and visually plays the course.
This skill is teaching him how to "see the end in mind,"
which is key to goal achievement.

7. Problem Solving

Rain, wind, trees, multiple sand traps, and deep rough can
make for a challenging day of tournament play. These are a
normal part of golf and can be an amazing opportunity for
clever problem solving and personal growth.

8. Focus

Golf is a tough sport. It requires that you not only know
the physics of hitting the ball (and what club to use when)
but requires intense mental and emotional concentration.
Silencing the inner critic after a "bad shot" is crucial to
regaining clear focus, which is an advanced skill to learn
but one that can take you very far in life.

9. Practice, Persistence, and Listening

In golf, instant success is very rare. My son has become a
great golfer through daily practice, persistence, and
through being open to listening to his mentors. In life, it
is important to know that we rarely reach our goal in one
"stroke." By practicing, making corrections along the way,
being open to coaching, and being persistent, we can tackle
most of life's tough challenges.

10. Graciousness

One of the most important life lessons my son has learned
from golf is to be gracious and respectful to adults. At the
end of each tournament, he and his competitors thank and
shake the hands of the tournament chairmen and follow this
up with a handwritten note of thanks

Review Of The Lynx Hybrid Golf Clubs

It has become common to see hybrid clubs on the golf course
these days, and this popularity has led to staggering sales
success. Yet so many golfers have yet to take advantage of
these advances in golf clubs. Hybrid clubs come in many
different styles with many brand names. One of these brands
is Lynx hybrid golf clubs.

With Lynx Hybrid Golf Clubs, golfers are better able to get
improved ball flight and shot distance, and this edge is one
that has spurred the growth of hybrids that includes growing
numbers of pro golfers switching to hybrids. One of the sets
of clubs that have a great deal of merit are Lynx Junior Set
Clubs. Lynx Junior sets and single clubs are able to provide
younger golfers a club that fits their specifications and
age range. There are four different sizes of junior clubs,
which are designed according to grip size, set
configuration, club head size, shaft flexibility, and
length. Any golfer can tell you that grip size is something
they take seriously in a club.

Also key to those who are thinking of using Lynx hybrid golf
clubs is the size of the club head. Rather than only using
the heel or toe of the golf head, the proper club should
give credence to usage of the entire golf club head. Not
only that, but if you happen to have excess stiffness in
your clubs and are unaware, this one issue can contribute
greatly to the problems you may have with your swing. 95% of
golfers might very well have varying degrees of rigidness in
their clubs ? and not even know it. That?s one reason Lynx
hybrid golf clubs mark what level of stiffness your club
has. If you have the right club head, the difference will
manifest itself immediately, giving you a better swing
without even having to change the way you swing.

Another type of Lynx hybrid golf clubs that can help golfers
is known as the Lynx Prowler 3-SW Hybrid golf irons. These
are made with strong stainless steel along with deep cavity
design that lets golfers get tremendous consistency out of
the club. With these clubs, that big drive off the course
may not necessarily land in the woods. The ball flight that
you can get from these clubs is impressive, and all golfers
will be more than pleased at the precision and control that
you will get from the Prowler clubs.

Another Lynx hybrid golf club that you can put to good use
is the Lynx Hy Launch hybrid club. A Hy Launch club lets
golfers experience the type of club that has a friendly
shape that is comfortable for golfers. With these clubs, you
get something to replace the many regular irons you may
currently own. Thanks to this club, you can say goodbye
forever to the classic golf iron.

Lynx hybrid golf clubs deliver impressive results quickly,
and golfers may wish to consider getting a set of this brand
of golf clubs.

Choosing Junior Golf Beginners Equipment – Better Do Your

Homework!

There are a microscopic few who can take to a sport of their
choice and make a success of it. The typical procedure is to
have an interest in the sport, then learn as much as you can
and then out in quality time practicing the sport preferably
with people who are well versed in the sport. Hw much time
you put into the sport determines how well you play it and
the same also applies to the quality of the equipment you
use to play the game.

So far as the game of golf goes the beginners are mostly
children and adolescents. This is why it is important to get
the right equipment for them to learn the game properly.
There are golf clubs designed for appropriate heights and
the weight of the club is also designed for the best golf
swing. The stance and the swing is of most importance in the
game of golf and so the equipment is designed to ensure that
the player develops the proper technique right at the
outset. This will help the beginner to develop a good game
of golf as the year's progress.

So far as beginner's golf equipment is concerned there are a
vast array of equipment in the market. It is presumed that
you have an experienced hand teaching you the beginning
techniques of the game. If you have an instructor it is best
that he r she guide you as to which of the necessary
equipment you should purchase and practice with at the
outset of your golfing career.

The first in the line of beginners golf equipment will
necessarily be a proper golf club, then will come the gloves
if necessary and most of all the shoes because you will be
doing a lot of walking. Comfortable golf shoes will help you
play a comfortable game of golf, it will also assist you to
develop a proper stance because golf shoes are designed not
only for comfort but to help you place your feet properly
whine taking a swing at the ball.

There are other golf equipment that come in handy when you
are setting out in your golfing career. The most important
of all is the golf club. Golf clubs are scientifically
designed to distribute body weight when swinging. A well
designed golf club will produce the perfect flight for the
ball and you will be practicing this stance so when you are
choosing your golf clubs ensure that you pick the best one
and stick to the company. Because if you change your golf
club manufacturer you will probably be changing the weight
and design of the club and this can adversely affect your
game because you stance and swing depend a lot on the golf
club.

There are other golf gadgets in the market such as the wrist
guard. This gadget clamps on to your wrist and keeps it at
an angle that is known to produce the perfect swing. A
couple of months with this gadget and you will be swinging
like a pro even without wearing the wrist clasp.

Anyway, whenever you choose to go out and get yourself a set
of junior beginner golf accessories it is best to take along
an experienced player or your coach to get the best there is
in the market - after all this is an investment in a career.

Women Golfers Set New Standards For The LPGA

It used to be unusual to turn on the television and catch
coverage of an LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association)
tour, but that?s not so anymore. Women are proving to be
quite adept at golf and an exciting sport to watch, and
networks and sponsors are catching on that people want to
watch these talented women play. Of this season?s 34 women?s
tournaments, only a handful won?t be televised.

The hottest golfer on the LPGA circuit right now is Annika
Sorenstam, currently the 2005 leader. Swedish-born Sorenstam
is only 34 and began playing golf at the age of 12. In 2004
she posted 16 top-ten finishes (including eight wins) in 18
tournaments, and earned a record-tying seventh Rolex Player
of the Year award, tying Kathy Whitworth for the most in
LPGA history. She was the first women?s player to earn more
than $15 million, and halfway through 2005 has already
earned nearly $1.6 million.

There are plenty of young women golfers following
Sorenstam?s lead, realizing that women can also excel in
what used to be known as a man?s sport. Players like
Michelle Wie, Brittany Lang, Paula Creamer and Morgan
Pressel are all beginning to make a name for themselves.
Creamer, a 2005 high school graduate, had already earned
more than half a million dollars this year alone by the time
she took her diploma.

Many of these young women are coming up through the ranks of
LPGA-USGA Girls Golf, a developmental junior golf program
designed to not only teach girls the game of golf, but also
life values such as patience, respect, perseverance and
honesty. These girls are also learning to lead a
physically-fit lifestyle. More than 4,500 girls ages 7-17
participate at 181 sites nationwide.

This is an exciting time for women?s golf and an opportunity
for young players to make their mark in history.

Does Your Junior Golfer Need A Sport Psychologist?

?My son gets so angry on the golf course that he cannot
perform in competitions?. ?My daughter gets so nervous when
other people are watching her play that her game completely
falls apart?. ?My kid hits it so well on the range, and then
hits it all over the map in a tournament?. These are the
kinds of comments that I often hear from parents of junior
golfers. Do these kids need a golf psychologist? No. Nobody
needs training on the mental part of the game. I take the
word need very seriously. I believe we need air and water
and sleep and food. I certainly wouldn?t suggest that
anyone needs mental training, anymore than I would suggest
that anyone needs golf lessons or physical training. What I
would say, however, is that I have yet to encounter any
player who couldn?t benefit from proper mental, technical,
or physical instruction. Thus, I believe any junior golfer
could benefit from mental instruction. Most people simply
don?t understand what this training is or how it works.

When I ask parents what percentage of their kid?s golf game
is mental, I rarely get a number less than 75%. Conversely,
when I ask those same people what percentage of their
child?s training time is devoted to working on the mental
game the answer is rarely greater than zero. And while
parents see the ?problem? with their child?s mental game,
the young player doesn?t know how to work on the mental game
and the parents don?t know where to look for answers to
their questions.

?What exactly do you do?? Most people outside of sport have
never heard of sport psychology, and many people in sport
have little knowledge about the nature of the job itself. In
a nutshell, golf psychology- or mental training for golf- is
consultation and education that exposes a player to the
requisite mental skills necessary to create an internal
environment to enjoy the sport more and achieve excellence
in performance. These skills are in conjunction with, but
not contrary to, the mechanical and physical instruction
that might be given by a swing coach or fitness trainer.

Here?s what it?s all about: Among other things, mental
training for golf is to help:

Understand how to deal with lapses in concentration

Deal with situations of accumulating frustration

Develop coping strategies to deal with increasing anxiety

Improve decreasing motivation

Examine and reinforce slipping confidence

Create strategies to reduce breakdowns under pressure

Craft procedures to increase consistency of preparation and
play

Generally the process first involves some type of
assessment. Next, there is a period of education and skill
development, followed by on-going follow-up and adjustments.
The specifics of the actual mental training will vary from
player to player, with the vast majority of interaction and
consultation done via telephone, on the golf course, at the
range, or on the putting green.

The added benefit for junior golfers is that the training
typically also has positive life effects. Understanding the
power of one?s thinking, learning how to differentiate those
things over which we have control from those over which we
do not have control, deepening an understanding of how to
take responsibility for our actions and our reactions to
events are among the many, many golf/life issues explored
and addressed. Ultimately, the more the junior player knows
him or herself, the more they understand the nuances of the
game, and the more they have specific strategies to apply,
the more they will be successful in golf and in life!

Left Handed Golf Club Sets – Do They Really Cost More?

Being naturally left handed is both a blessing and a curse.
Depending on whom you ask and when you ask them, it may seem
that being left handed is more curse than blessing. This is
particularly true when a lefty is also a golfer and is
looking for left handed golf club sets. The good news is
that a quality set of left handed golf clubs isn?t difficult
to find and with a little clever shopping, doesn?t have to
cost a leftie his right arm.

Most of the major golf club manufacturers such as Ping,
Callaway Golf, Taylormade, and others, also make the exact
same models in both right handed and left handed varieties.
Of course, the demand for left handed clubs is significantly
smaller than that for right handed clubs, so the numbers
they actually produce will be less. This can sometimes
result in certain left handed golf club sets being out of
stock at your local sporting goods store. However, most
times, the left handed club sets cost exactly the same as
the right handed models.

Golf clubs can also be custom made. This service is either
provided by a store specializing in custom made golf clubs
or by a golf pro who provides this service as a sideline.
Custom made golf club sets are a great option if you want a
set of clubs that are perfectly fitted for you with respect
to length, shaft flex, weight, loft, and materials.

Custom made left handed golf club sets are a particularly
good option for left handed golfers. Just be prepared to
spend quite a bit more for custom made clubs. This service
doesn?t come cheap!

So what other options are available to left handed golfers
who are in the market for left handed golf club sets? One
source of golf clubs of all types is to seek out used club
sets.

Every year thousands of people take up the game of golf with
full intention of learning how to play and make golf a
regular pastime. But then reality kicks in, and they either
find out that golf is not an easy game to master or they
never find the time to even get started. They then find
themselves with a very nice set of golf clubs collecting
dust out in the garage.

And do you think some of these failed golfers may just
happen to also be left handed? That?s one thing you can
count on! And best of all, after they get tired of those
expensive clubs taking up valuable space in their garages or
closets they are probably going to breakdown and put them up
for sale at a mere fraction of their original retail price.

The great thing about most used left handed golf club sets
is that many of them were either never played or were just
very lightly played. This means that unless they were
seriously abused, that they will be in almost new like
condition. Just imagine expensive Ping and Callaway sets
being virtually given away and left handed varieties to
boot!

And you can find not only used men?s left handed club sets
offered for sale, but also ladies and junior sets. The
important thing to is to know exactly where to look for used
left handed club sets and then knowing how to evaluate the
condition of the clubs and assess their true value. Armed
with this very important consumer knowledge you will be in
the driver?s seat when it comes to snagging yourself a great
deal on a used set of left handed golf clubs.
